Career & Technical Education

The Career and Technical Education (CTE) program is designed to equip students with practical skills and knowledge that prepare them for specific careers or further education in various fields. This program offers a range of courses that focus on hands-on learning experiences, often integrating academic subjects with vocational training. Students can explore areas such as healthcare, information technology, business, engineering, culinary arts, and more, allowing them to gain both theoretical understanding and real-world applications of their chosen fields.

In addition to classroom instruction, CTE programs often include opportunities for internships, job shadowing, and industry certifications, which enhance students’ employability upon graduation. By participating in CTE, students can discover their interests, develop technical skills, and earn college credit or industry-recognized credentials, giving them a competitive edge in the job market or in pursuing further education. Overall, the CTE program aims to bridge the gap between education and employment, helping students to transition smoothly into their future careers.

Lander County School District offers Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs at the secondary and postsecondary levels. As required by federal law and the Nevada Department of Education, we must notify families and the public that all CTE programs, services, and activities are offered without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, disability, or age.

Non-Discrimination Statement for Participation in CTE Programs

Overview

The Office for Civil Rights (OCR) of the United States Department of Education (USDE) requires that LEAs provide CTE programs, services and activities in accordance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. The Nevada Department of Education (NDE) has regulatory responsibilities for CTE programs in Nevada public secondary schools, charter schools, and post-secondary institutions including the College of Southern Nevada, Great Basin College, Truckee Meadows Community College, and Western Nevada College and is required to adopt a civil rights compliance program to identify, remedy and/or prevent discrimination in the CTE programs operated by LEAs.  This program is called the Methods of Administration (MOA): Federal Compliance/OCR

Requirements for compliance are found in the document, Vocational Education Programs Guidelines for Eliminating Discrimination and Denial of Services on the Basis of Race, Color, National Origin, Sex and Handicap (Guidelines). A link to the full text can be found at the US Department of Education, Office of Civil Rights Guidelines for Vocational Education Programs.

Each year, the CTE School District offers career and technical education programs at the CTE Secondary and Postsecondary levels. Lander County School District does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, or age in its programs and activities and provides equal access to the CTE programs.

All career and technical education programs follow the district’s policies of nondiscrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, and disability in all programs, services, activities, and employment.

In addition, arrangements can be made to ensure that the lack of English language proficiency is not a barrier to admission or participation.
